In early December 2016, staff from New York JFON participated in two community events related to immigration, which were scheduled in the aftermath of the recent election.

On Monday, December 5, 2016, New York JFON was at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine to participate in a discussion about churches and the sanctuary movement led by the New Sanctuary Coalition of New York City. Managing Attorney TJ Mills was on hand to provide technical legal expertise to clergy and lay members of churches, as well as members from the local community, who were interested in helping immigrants.

On Sunday, December 11, Managing Atttorney TJ Mills participated in an Immigration Know Your Rights Forum for the Chinatown community co-sponsored by the United East Athletic Association, the Korean American Lawyers Association of Greater New York, and New York JFON. New York JFON Volunteer Attorney Yan Sin moderated the discussion, while Managing Attorney TJ Mills of JFON and Diana Shum of the Legal Aid Society spoke about immigration benefits--particularly DACA--and how they might change once the new administration takes office. The speakers encouraged the audience to consult with immigration law practitioners and remain vigilant as we enter into the new presidential term.
