The Chrysalis Project is a new partnership program between New York JFON and the New Sanctuary Coalition of NYC that aims to bring together immigrants who are under threat of deportation and detention with volunteers who will accompany them to their required, periodic check-ins with immigration officials. Thousands of immigrants are required to check-in regularly with ICE as they fight their deportation cases. In many cases, close family and friends cannot accompany them to their check-ins for fear of being detained, because they may be undocumented as well.

The Chrysalis Project will show how volunteers in the New York JFON site can make a difference by acting as someone’s support system at check-ins and helping to ensure a fair process for all. The first training session will be at Chinese United Methodist Church in Lower Manhattan on Saturday, January 9, 2016.
