The District of Attorney of Kings County (Brooklyn) recently certified U-visa applications on behalf of a married couple from Mexico, who sought NYAC-JFON’s assistance at our clinic at John Wesley United Methodist Church in Brooklyn. NYAC-JFON is seeking U-visas for this couple as indirect victims of their son’s murder.

Their son was killed in 2009 in a gang attack. Last year, one of the attackers was indicted.  The parents continue to cooperate with the DA’s office.  The father also speaks out regularly to community groups to help curb gang recruitment and gang violence. He also serves as a prison chaplain ministering to victims of gang recruitment.  Now that the DA has certified the clients as the indirect victims of a crime, NYAC-JFON will request that Citizenship and Immigration Services issue them U-visas.
